Works on the puck carrier deep in the right corner, and as the opponent tries to spin away and turn up ice, Malatesta picks his pocket and turns for a backhand attempt on goal. Not a lot on it, but it was hard to determine if that was a shot or an attempt to pass to his teammate cutting to the front of the net.

Pushes a bouncing puck forward, races the defender to it, and as the puck pings off the half-boards, Malatesta one-times a fast-release snap shot on net. He can get a shot away from anywhere under any condition.

Great effort from near the red line to chase a puck that was racing into the offensive zone. He again beat a defender to the puck, and as soon as his reached it (near the goal line) he swept the puck back to Cormier coming down the right wing, who finishes. Malatesta caught up to the puck and didn't bother trying to settle it, just passed it behind and to his right at full speed. Excellent play.

He's got such a feel for the game. He just jumped to a spot where the puck squeaked out and he tucks it backhand into the open net.

Any interesting scoring forward prospect who seems to want to get the puck in the net on every shift, and wants more when he gets one. His shot is much more accurate than his passing, which he will absolutely need to improve upon. He plays a smart, highly attentive game, and his hockey sense is great. I liked his willingness to get physical and go to the difficult areas despite being just 16 years old and 5'9.
